The makeover of Terminal 1 entrances that connect the Bag Claim level with Arrivals Drive at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is moving to the second and final phase.
On Tuesday, Oct 1, Lambert will re-open Terminal 1 Entry/Exit 17 which has been renovated with new sleek, all-glass enclosed walkways. Entry/Exit 17 is the main exit for the passenger pick- up zone, car rental shuttles and hotel shuttles.
Also on Tuesday, Lambert will close Terminal 1 Entry/Exit 12 which will also be fully renovated with the same glass and steel architecture over the walkways. The second phase of construction will close one lane of traffic near the work zone. The loading zone for Super Park shuttles and the Terminal 2 Shuttle, normally located on the curb of the terminal, will be moved to the center island on Arrivals Drive during construction. The project is slated to be completed in three to four months, weather permitting.
The new all-glass enclosed walkways will better enhance Lambert’s historic terminal architecture. The project is being funded with support from the Eastman Chemical Company. The glass panels will allow natural lighting to brighten the pathway for the public to and from the lower level Bag Claim. Eastman’s Saflex® and Vanceva® interlayers bring safety, security and UV protection to the laminated glass. LLumar® decorative window films provide a distinct design pattern to the enclosed walkways.
The iconic history of Budweiser comes alive in St. Louis with the new bar & restaurant concept at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. EIGHTEEN|76, now open in Lambert’s Concourse E in Terminal 2 (Gate E10), pays homage to the founding year of Budweiser, first brewed in the original St. Louis Anheuser-Busch brewery and still brewed there today.
EIGHTEEN|76 is the first airport location for this nostalgic concept which will feature mural accents of Budweiser history with an interior finish that features beechwood, brick and dark metal finishes. A reclaimed aged beechwood and stainless steel bar are highlighted with bright red seats and accent lighting.
The new concept was developed in partnership with Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and HMSHost, the master food concessionaire at the airport, with valuable input from Anheuser-Busch.
“The city of St. Louis has a great deal of history and HMSHost is proud to help honor this with the opening of EIGHTEEN|76,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Stephen Douglas. “Bringing EIGHTEEN|76 to Terminal 2 provides travelers with an authentic St. Louis experience and a taste of local culture.”
The bar features nearly a dozen beers in both draft and bottles. EIGHTEEN|76 will also have a top flight wine list. Drinks can be paired with complementary menu items like the roast beef hero sandwich, Gus’ pressed pretzel (with Shock Top Belgian White mustard), farm house cheese plates, steakhouse caprese salad and roasted red pepper hummus with grilled garlic flatbread.
To celebrate the opening of EIGHTEEN|76 on September 24, Anheuser-Busch gave passengers and airport visitors a unique surprise in Terminal 2. One of the Budweiser Clydesdales made a special appearance inside the ticketing level of Terminal 2 to greet both arriving and departing passengers.
The legendary Eddie Bauer has expanded into the airport frontier with Lambert-St. Louis International Airport as the newest home for the retailer offering classic outdoor sportswear, business casual apparel and accessories.
The new Eddie Bauer at Lambert is only the second airport location in the country, located in the C Concourse adjacent to Gate C6. The store is one of the keystone changes in a year-long retail makeover by the Hudson Group (JG-St. Louis JV) which became the primary news, gifts and specialty concessionaire at Lambert in February.
The 1,500 sq. ft. Eddie Bauer store features an iconic timber and stone entrance with a rustic wood theme interior that offers the perfect backdrop for a large mix of clothing and gear for men and women. The Lambert Eddie Bauer store will feature polo’s, blouses, dress shirts, sports shirts, sweaters, pants, shorts, jeans, jackets, fleece, accessories, watches and a collection of backpacks and travel duffels.
Hudson is in its final phase of launching new brands and renovating all retail locations in Lambert terminals and concourses. The launch began with the opening of its flagship Hudson travel convenience store (news, magazines, books, snacks, technology) which is now in multiple locations at the Airport. Earlier this summer, Hudson opened Natalie’s Candy Jar in Concourse C and E as well as a Maxiga in Concourse A. Other new stores include Discover St. Louis, Kids Works, Bliss, Spectacles and Ebony News. A CNN Newsstand in Concourse E will open later this fall.
“Eddie Bauer just adds to a great mix of new, bright and attractive stores at Lambert,” said Airport Director, Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “The retail transformation isn’t complete but we’ve already seen great results from the opening of each new store. We’ve received very favorable responses and reviews from our customers so far.”
Lambert Airport in St. Louis, MO serves nearly 13 million passengers annually with 250 daily flights to 60 non-stop destinations.
The Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Pre-Check program for expedited screening has been expanded this week at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to include Delta and United flights in the A Concourse. This TSA program at Lambert began in 2012 with American and then US Air flights in the C concourse.
The TSA Pre-Check is an expedited screening program that allows pre-approved airline travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on in select screening lanes. Passengers flying with the participating airlines can enroll in TSA’s Pre-Check through their airline’s frequent flier programs. Travelers can also participate through enrollment in the CBP’s Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs.
To date, more than 12 million travelers have already experienced TSA Pre-Check at dozens of airports nationwide. (St. Louis) The St. Louis Airport Rescue Firefighters (ARFF) will participate in a live-burn simulation as part of a training exercise this week on September 11, 12 and 13. The training will take place near the Lambert Airfield in a secured area off of Navaid Road.
The training exercise uses a Mobile Aircraft Trainer, a 50 foot fuselage capable of producing simulated fires including a fully engulfed aircraft. The mobile trainer is provided by the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute, which conducts more than a dozen firefighting courses annually across the country.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires annual aircraft rescue and firefighting training with live fires for airport emergency response personnel.
(St. Louis) Tickets are now on sale for the premier social event of the year at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. The 3rd Annual Art of Travel, on October 10, will celebrate Lambert’s newest art installations and raise more funds for future permanent and temporary exhibits.
The event will transport guests back to the awesome ‘80s in Lambert’s B Concourse (Terminal 1) with that decade infused across food, beverages and music. The popular silent auction, featuring some of St. Louis’ top artists, returns for another year. Guests will also be able to become artists themselves with a group participation art project for that evening. The event, from 6-8 p.m., is co-chaired by Solomon and Pat Smith Thurman, owners of the 10th Street Gallery. Tickets can be purchased at www.flystl.com/artoftravel. Guests will receive complimentary parking at the Airport with their tickets.
This year, Art of Travel is presented by Spire Natural Gas Fueling Solutions, a new venture by The Laclede Group and Siemens Industry, Inc. The first compressed natural gas fueling station from Spire will open just west of Lambert later this year. More than two dozen other partners are also sponsoring the Art of Travel which is helping to transform the Airport with local and international works bringing a new sense of place for visitors and local residents alike.

The inaugural Art of Travel event in 2011 helped provide immediate financial support for a multi-colored terrazzo floor medallion inlay, New Village, by St. Louis artist Alicia LaChance. It also funded new exhibitions at Lambert’s Meeting Place Gallery in the Terminal 1 Bag Claim. The second annual Art of Travel in 2012 raised more than $54,000. A majority of those funds will support a new art installation in the new Terminal 1 Atrium adjacent to the Airport’s new entertainment stage. An artist selection process is underway and will wrap up this fall with installation set for 2014.

The conversion of some former Missouri Air National Guard (MOANG) facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is underway for the creation of a new base for Jet Linx, a company that offers private jet services for its members.
Renovations have begun on two former military buildings to create a private terminal and hangar for Jet Linx St. Louis, LLC, an affiliate of Jet Linx Aviation of Omaha, NE. Currently, there are eight other Jet Linx locations across the country: Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Omaha, San Antonio and Scottsdale. The renovations sit on two acres west of Lambert’s Terminal 1 on the south side of the airfield. The St. Louis Airport Commission and the City of St. Louis approved a 10-year lease with the Jet Linx St. Louis, LLC. Following renovations, operations at the new Jet Linx facilities are scheduled to begin in September.
The MOANG facilities at Lambert were downsized in 2009 with a majority of operations relocated to Whiteman Air Force Base. In the past two years, Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge led an effort to explore new private uses for some of the facilities which were under a long-term lease by the government. MOANG leaders agreed to relinquish a portion of its leasehold and relocate additional military operations to other St. Louis facilities making it possible for new uses in a portion of the MOANG complex at Lambert.
“Working with Jet Linx and the Missouri Air National Guard on this exchange was a great example of government and private sector co-operation on a venture that benefits Lambert and the St. Louis Region,” Hamm-Niebruegge said.

The second wave of retail stores by the Hudson Group (JG-St. Louis JV) adds a sweet taste and a lot of color for passengers coming through Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Natalie’s Candy Jar and Maxiga stores are the latest retail shops to open to rave reviews since Hudson Group became the primary news, gifts and specialty concessionaire in February.
Natalie’s Candy Jar offers passengers traditional chocolates and candies and a taste of nostalgia. The store’s philosophy is simple: fresh and delicious chocolates and candies, upscale confectionery gift items and superior customer service. Natalie’s offers passengers a large variety of tasty treats with over 300 conventional, proprietary and hard to find candies as well as candy related gift items. The store also features a large bulk selection and a generous assortment of sugar-free treats and nuts for the health conscious passenger.
The well-known brand candy store opened Wednesday, July 24 in Terminal 1 on Concourse C and Terminal 2, completing the second wave of the Hudson Group’s retail transformation at Lambert Airport. Natalie’s Candy Jar has already proven to be a hit with passengers. “We’re very happy with the reception the store has received from passengers and airport personnel. Everyone was in the store the first day looking and buying and that’s what we want,” said Rick Raby, Hudson Group General Manager.
Colorful and fun are two words defining another new retail shop in Terminal 1 on Concourse A. Passengers will be sure to find that whimsical, one-of-a-kind gift in Maxiga, which opened July 4. Lambert is home to the first Maxiga outside of New York City. Maxiga carries tech novelties, stationery, kitchen accessories and kids’ toys. Passengers will find gift items that are both fun and functional.
“We’re excited about the latest stores to open by the Hudson Group. They’re fun, bright and bring yet another dimension to our growing efforts to expand our retail options for passengers,” said Lambert Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.
Hudson and its business partners will operate 14 retail locations once it completes its build-out stores. Other stores that were opened in the first phase include Hudson News & Gifts, Spectacles, Bliss, Discover St. Louis and Kids Works. The third and final phase is currently under construction. The stores in this phase include Eddie Bauer, Ebony News, CNN Newsstand St. Louis and other Hudson news & gift locations.
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport reported an increase of 3.2 percent in total passengers for May 2013 versus May 2012. This is the third straight monthly increase and the largest increase in passenger traffic in 2013.
In May, 1,259,582 passengers traveled through Lambert versus 1,124,115 in 2011. Year to date, more than five million passengers have traveled through the Airport for an overall increase of 1.3 percent versus the first five months of 2012.
Total passengers include both departing and arriving passengers. Enplanements for May were 593,402 passengers. Deplanements (arrivals) were 566,180.
Total aircraft departures which include commercial passenger aircraft and cargo held statistically even at 7,520 (0.4% increase) over 2011.
Lambert currently serves 11 airlines (and related affiliates) which are operating 258 daily non-stop flights to 63 destinations. In addition to daily scheduled flights, there are several weekly charter flights to Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Dominica Republic operating out of Lambert.

Grounded In St. Louis was developed by HMSHost for Lambert to offer an upscale menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads- and even breakfast- with a counter service restaurant platform for quick and convenient take out.
“In the country’s heartland, Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is the perfect location for us to roll out our latest restaurant concept, Grounded In, featuring an all-American favorite—the burger,” said Frank Sickelsmith, VP of Adult Beverage & Restaurant Development.

The menu is all made to order with custom grounded burgers in the spotlight with options like the CholulaTM (1/3lb. with hot sauce, pepper jack cheese on brioche roll), the Cubano (1/3lb. with Cherrywood ham, Swiss cheese on a brioche roll), or the Sunrise (1/3lb. topped with cheddar, bacon and a sunny side up egg). Those custom burgers all feature great sides like French fries with sea salt, sweet potato fries or battered onion rings with assorted dips.
Breakfast options include egg sandwiches, the “Chix Deluxe” (grilled chicken breakfast sandwich) or yogurt, fruit and granola as a health-conscious option. The menu also features premium ice cream milkshakes with a variety of toppings.
